Offensive Weapons Act 2019
The Offensive Weapons Act part 1 affects the sale and supply of certain products manufactured and sold by Evans Vanodine.
The act addresses crimes related to acid attacks (including the sale and possession in public places of corrosive substances). It is an offence to sell a corrosive product to any person under the age of 18 and reasonable steps should be taken to establish the purchaser’s age.
- Sales over the internet are not advised as it is not possible to verify the age of the purchaser.
- Sales over a trade counter should only be allowed when age can be verified.
- Delivery of the products affected should only be to individuals whose age can be verified.
Age verification is by Photo ID and the act defines these as a passport, EU photocard driving license and other suitable documents in Scotland. Please refer to the statutory guidance for full details on how to comply.
The corrosive substances defined in the Act and the permitted limits in the products are shown in Schedule 1 attached. The Evans products affected are listed below;
